Here’s what’s going on in our world.
And we wouldn’t be true Texans if we didn’t brag a bit.

Ross Belsome recently journeyed to Denver to attend NACVA’s intensive seminar, “Intermediate Business Valuation Training Center,” where he met with experts in the industry who were able to present aspects of the Income, Asset, and Market Approaches from all different walks of the valuation world. This sort of think-tank, if you will, on business valuation also focused on writing techniques to ensure our clients and the IRS have the clearest understanding of technical matters such as cost of capital and new and relevant debates that are ongoing in the field.

In 2014, for the fifth consecutive year, The Hancock Firm was voted the number one litigation valuation provider in Houston. This esteemed honor is the result of the Texas Lawyer’s annual “Best of” poll, where lawyers cast their votes for the best providers of products and services to the Texas legal community, an honor that has sealed our standing in the Texas’ Best Hall of Fame. The ballot in this rigid competition consists of 40 plus categories, and thousands of attorneys take the time to participate and vote. We’re pleased to provide highly personalized business valuation services to Houston’s legal community and its clients, and we’re even more honored to be recognized by such an elite group of the legal community.

Four Recent THF Projects, All in December 2013

For The Hancock Firm, a busy yet productive 2013 showed no signs of slowing down when December rolled around. We began by valuing two oilfield service companies located in the Bakken Shale market. Subsequently, Rob Hancock testified on these values in the Southern District of Texas U.S. Bankruptcy Court. The Hancock Firm also valued an international oil trading firm pursuant to a marital dissolution. After the valuation, a public trial was avoided when mediation led to a settlement.

In addition to these matters, Shea Hancock directed the valuation of: a physician’s interest in a family medical practice, common stock in a health care advisory firm, and a minority interest in an equipment distributor. Ross Belsome and Michelle Loew provided forensic accounting services for companies within the hospitality industry, while Lloyd Ross effectively supported blockage and restricted stock discounts for publicly-traded stock. Following Lloyd Ross’s work, The Hancock Firm prepared a written report on the discounted value of the publicly-traded stock.

The Hancock Firm is proud to annually support Night Court, a musical comedy written and performed by Houston attorneys in every aspect. From the orchestra, stage crew, set building, costuming, marketing, and fundraising, a dedicated group of attorneys volunteer to make Night Court both a great accomplishment and a unique entertainment experience for all.

The Night Court production, benefitting Houston-area charities, has raised more than half a million dollars in its more than 20 years. Profits have benefited a wide range of charitable causes, including the Houston Area Women’s Center Children’s Court Service, the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, STAR Family Intervention Court Program, the STAR Drug Program, and Habitat for Humanity, along with many other charitable works of the Houston Bar Foundation. For the fourth consecutive year, The Hancock Firm has been a sponsor of Night Court and look forward to the coming years with this production.
